Privacy Policy

Thank you for choosing Track & Split ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information our mobile application collects, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Please read Section 4 carefully. It describes information about other people that you may provide when you use our shared-expense features.

1. Quick Summary

  • Your SMS messages are parsed entirely on your device and are never uploaded to us.
  • Your personal expense tracking data stays on your device unless you choose to use our shared-expense ("Split") features.
  • If you sign in and use Split features, the groups, members and expenses you create are stored in the cloud so they can sync between you and the people you share them with.
  • We collect diagnostics, analytics and advertising data to keep the app working and to support the free version.
  • We do not sell your personal information.

2. Data Processed Only on Your Device

SMS Data (READ_SMS permission)

Why we ask for it. Track & Split can record your transactions automatically instead of making you type them in. To do this, the app reads automated transaction alerts sent by banks, card issuers and other financial institutions.

How it works.

  • The app's parsing engine looks only for transaction-related messages from known financial senders. It extracts details such as amount, date, merchant name, and the last four digits of the account or card.
  • All SMS parsing happens locally on your device.
  • Your SMS messages, and their contents, are never uploaded to our servers or to any third party.
  • We do not read, collect, or store personal (non-financial) text messages.

Your personal transaction records

Transactions in the main expense tracker — whether created automatically from SMS or entered by you — are stored in a database on your device. We do not upload them.

If you export your data (for example to CSV), the exported file is created on your device and you control where it goes.

3. Data We Store in the Cloud

Some features require an account and a server. These are optional: if you never sign in and never use Split features, this section does not apply to you.

3.1 Account information

To use Split features you sign in with Google. Through Firebase Authentication we receive and store:

  • your name
  • your email address
  • your profile photo
  • a unique account identifier

3.2 Shared expense data (Split)

When you create or join a group, the following is stored in our cloud database (Google Cloud Firestore) so it can sync to every member of that group:

  • Groups: group name, group image, and who owns the group
  • Members: display name, and — where provided — mobile number, email address and profile image
  • Expenses: description, amount, who paid, how it is split between members, category, date and time, notes, and any attached receipt image

3.3 Images

Group images you upload are stored in Firebase Storage.

Please note: group images are readable by anyone who has the direct image link. Do not upload images containing sensitive information.

3.4 Feedback

If you submit in-app feedback, we store your rating, your written review, your app version, and your device model.

3.5 Push notifications

We store a push notification token for your device so we can notify you about activity in your groups, such as a new expense or a settlement.

4. Information About Other People

Our Split features let you add other people to a group and record what they owe or are owed. When you do this, you may provide us with their name, mobile number, or email address.

Please understand:

  • You are responsible for making sure you have permission to share another person's contact details with us.
  • The information you add about a person is visible to the other members of that group.
  • A person you add may not be a user of our app. If someone asks us to remove their information, contact us at the address in Section 12 and we will act on that request.

Please add only the minimum detail you actually need.

5. Diagnostics, Analytics and Advertising

Diagnostics

We use Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Performance Monitoring to find crashes and performance problems. These collect crash reports, device model and operating system version, and performance traces.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand which features are used, so we can improve the app. This collects app usage events and general device and regional information.

Advertising

The free version of the app shows ads through Google AdMob. AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier to display and measure ads, including personalised ads where permitted.

You can limit this at any time in your device settings — on Android, under Settings → Privacy → Ads, where you can reset or delete your advertising ID.

Ads are not shown to active Pro subscribers.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed through Google Play Billing and managed using RevenueCat. We receive your purchase and subscription status and an anonymous identifier. We never receive or store your card or payment details.

6. How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above to:

  • provide automatic expense tracking and the shared-expense features
  • sync your groups and shared expenses between members
  • send notifications about activity in your groups
  • deliver, restore and verify your subscription
  • diagnose crashes and improve performance and features
  • show ads in the free version
  • respond to your feedback and support requests

We do not use your financial SMS content for advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.

7. Who We Share Information With

We share information only with service providers who help us run the app:

ProviderPurpose
Google Firebase (Auth, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Functions, Messaging)Accounts, cloud sync, images, notifications
Google Analytics for Firebase, Crashlytics, Performance MonitoringAnalytics and diagnostics
Google AdMobAdvertising in the free version
Google Play BillingPayment processing
RevenueCatSubscription management

We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do so.

8. Where Your Data Is Stored

Our cloud database is hosted in the United States. If you use Split features, your shared-expense data is transferred to and stored on servers outside your country of residence.

9. Data Retention

  • Data stored on your device stays until you delete it or uninstall the app.
  • Shared-expense data stays in the cloud while the group exists, so that other members keep their records.
  • Diagnostics and analytics data is retained according to Google's retention policies for those services.

You can request deletion of your account and associated cloud data — see Section 10.

10. Your Rights and Choices

  • SMS permission: You can grant or revoke it at any time in your device settings. Revoking it disables automatic transaction capture; you can still add transactions manually.
  • Use the app without an account: Personal expense tracking works without signing in.
  • Advertising: You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings.
  • Delete local data: Delete data inside the app, clear the app's data in system settings, or uninstall the app.
  • Delete your account and cloud data: Contact us at the address in Section 12 and we will delete your account and the data associated with it. Some records may remain visible to other members of a shared group where deleting them would remove that group's history for everyone.
  • Access and correction: Contact us to request a copy of your data or to correct it.

11. Children

Track & Split is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes and Contact

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the Effective Date above.
